Nephrology Specialists, P.C. — what to know before, during, and after your visit
Appointments
We look forward to seeing you! If you need to cancel or reschedule, please give us at least 24 hours' notice so we can offer that time to another patient. To reschedule, call us at 219-931-5227.
We understand that emergencies happen. If something unexpected comes up and you cannot provide 24 hours' notice, please call us as soon as possible and we will do our best to accommodate you.
What to Bring to Your Visit
To help your appointment go smoothly, please bring the following:
- Current insurance card(s) — including Medicare, Medicaid, or any supplemental plans
- Photo ID — a driver's license, state ID, or passport
- Co-payment — co-pays are due at the time of your visit
- Referral — if your insurance plan requires a referral from your primary care physician, please bring it with you or make sure it has been sent to our office before your appointment
- Medication list — a list of all medications you are currently taking, including over-the-counter drugs and supplements
First-time patients: Please arrive 15 minutes early to complete your new-patient paperwork.
During Your Visit
We want to make the most of your time with us. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
- Request lab copies — if you would like copies of your lab results, please let us know at the beginning of your visit
- Report recent hospitalizations — if you have been hospitalized or visited the emergency room since your last appointment, please let us know right away so we can update your records
- Prescription refills — please request any prescription refills during your office visit so your doctor can review and update your medications in person
- Bring your questions — write down any questions or concerns ahead of time so you don't forget to ask during your appointment
Prescription Refills
For your safety, prescription refills are handled during office visits rather than by phone. This allows your doctor to review your current health status, check your lab work, and make any adjustments before renewing your medications.
If you are running low on a medication before your next scheduled appointment, please call us at 219-931-5227 and we will help you arrange a visit.
After Hours
Your health and safety are our top priority, even when our office is closed.
- Medical emergencies: Call 911 immediately or go to your nearest emergency room
- Urgent concerns: Call 219-931-5227 and follow the prompts to reach our on-call provider. An on-call physician is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for urgent medical concerns
For non-urgent questions — such as appointment scheduling, referrals, or billing — please call us back during regular office hours.
Insurance and Billing
We participate with most major insurance plans. To make sure your visit goes smoothly:
- Verify your insurance — please confirm with your insurance company that our practice is in your plan's network before your visit
- Co-payments — co-pays, deductibles, and any outstanding balances are due at the time of service
- Billing questions — if you have questions about a bill or your account, please call us at 219-931-5227 and our billing team will be happy to help
We are committed to making your care as affordable and transparent as possible. If you have concerns about the cost of your care, please don't hesitate to talk with us.
